I darkened his abdomen and lightened the shoulder, chest and visible leg area.  This term is value and it gives depth to the photo.  On the head I in creased the intensity of the outline of the area in front of the ears.  This gave shape to the face.

     The background I  removed the leaves and grass so that the primary form stood out.  I believe it gave the dog more depth and shape.  I chose taupe because it was a hue that agreed with the color of the dog.
